Introducing Dee Boys, Founder. Find out more about Dee’s journey and what motivated her to start ‘Women of the New Generation’.
ARE YOU INVOLVED IN ANY SPORTING ACTIVITIES
Pretty much all my life I have been in some sort of sport. I have a competitive personality so I am always up for a challenge. I’ve competed in regional, state, Australian National and World Championship road cycling races, half-marathons, full marathons, triathlons, 70.3 Ironman and full-distance Ironman.
THE REASON BEHIND ‘WOMEN OF THE NEW GENERATION
When I turned 50 and continued competing I was intrigued to find out more about mature women athletes and what activities they were doing. I was also curious as to what health advice I could find. Upon this research I realized that I couldn’t find much material and the health advice I was coming across was general information for inactive people. I was actually shocked at the lack of information for mature women athletes. I know a lot of active older women conquering amazing things, a whole new generation that are still out there competing, climbing mountains, sailing around the world and competing in World Championship events. They are the women that motivate and inspire me. I felt, for this reason, I wanted share their stories, so that they can motivate more women and show that there is no age limit to keep doing what you love to do.
I also wanted to create an environment where women can connect with like minded other women and share their tips on health, fitness and wellness.
HOW ARE YOU DISCOVERING THESE WOMEN TO TELL THEIR STORY
So far this short journey has been mind blowing. Its crazy when you open your mind, what can flow your way. Initially I started collecting stories from people I knew and even though they were my friends, “I was like “wow that is such a great story”. From this, my network started to branch out and I was making contact with people I didn’t know. People are now contacting me and sharing proudly what they are doing. It’s definitely been a very exciting adventure to create and share.
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE FUTURE
As I grow older I actually get more excited to keep reaching higher. Even more so after reading the stories I am collecting. I love the feeling of pushing myself. I compete to challenge myself, its part of my growth. I was listening to a great podcast recently that I connected with…”You never know how far you can push yourself, unless you go right to the edge of the cliff. Sometimes you fall off but you get back up, try again and learn every time. Structure discipline and love what you are doing”. Darren Mounts.
So I will continue to keep doing what I love. In July 2019 I will compete in my 4th Full Ironman. The plan is 10 Ironmans by the time I’m 100 and whatever comes in-between Ill give it a go.
